History

In September 2006, the importer and distributor of spirits was born: „The Nectar“, under the leadership of its Managing Director and main shareholder: Jan Broekmans. A branch that is part of the Broekmans group, a family business.

  1. July 2006

    Jan Broekmans decides to embark on a new, big adventure: establishing an import and distribution company for high-quality spirits. Thanks to the inspiration of Mario Groteklaes, an employee who has been part of the organization from the very beginning, and referring to the mythical and fantastic drinks of the ancient Greek gods, the company will be named „The Nectar“.

  2. September 2006

    Jan and Mario soon gained the trust of their first known independent bottlers such as Duncan Taylor, Dewar Rattray, Cadenhead’s and Blackadder. Moreover, especially for enthusiasts, the “Bottlings for The Nectar” soon appear on the market… the first bottling, launched on the Belgian market on the same month, was a single cask Caol Ila 1984 by Dewar Rattray.

    Afterwards, the most important import companies such as Cinoco and Rémi Cointreau ,offer „The Nectar“ the opportunity, thanks to their cooperation, to reach more and more cavists through high-quality products.

  3. 2007

    Isle of Arran Distilleries is de first official distillery that joins the adventure of „The Nectar“. These distilleries naturally contribute to the wide variety of premium spirits that „The Nectar“ offers to the most picky enthusiasts.

  4. Novembre 2007

    Launch of the first “Spirits in the Sky”.

    The first edition takes place at the airport of Liège-Bierset and brings together a large number of fans, as well as all partners of „The Nectar“. It is the beginning of a long tradition of “SITS”, a gathering that fans of premium spirits look forward to every year.

  5. 2008

    „The Nectar“ creates its own range of independent bottlings: “Daily Dram”.

  6. 2009

    „The Nectar“ welcomes many new partners such as the house Cognac Ferrand (which also has Plantation Rum), The Glendronach, Nikka and several distilleries that come to strengthen the range of proposed products.

  7. 2010

    Time for change: „The Nectar“ is now equipped with a brand new warehouse, adapted to the size of new activities.

  8. 2014

    The festival “Spirits in the Sky” is moving to a more central location in the heart of Europe, the Thon Hotel Eu in Brussels.

  9. 2015

    In order to meet the demand of bartenders and fans of fine and original Gin Tonic, „The Nectar“ creates its own Tonic: Erasmus Bond.

  10. 2019

    „The Nectar“ continues to evolve with a new warehouse and larger offices on an area of more than 6000m².
